BioExplorer EMG Design Suite
The designs in this suite are simple in conception - they are based on a single channel
of EMG (electromyography) data, for muscle tension biofeedback. I use them in my own practice with basic
stress-related placements of the electrodes: wrist to wrist and frontalis (forehead).
(Note that some of the designs in the breathing suite also monitor EMG, and are much better
suited for feedback of muscle tension related to breathing (such as measured from the scalene or
trapezius mucles.)
The designs have the following button-switchable control options:
- Filter bandwidth: can be set to narrow (100-200 Hz) or wide (10-400 Hz) - the former is the
more typical.
- Length of averaging of EMG amplitude: can be set to long or short. By default these are
1.0 S and 0.125 S respectively.
Graphical Feedback Features
- Oscilloscope with threshold control (note the threshold also controls audio feedback)

- Long term trend
- Spectral Analysis of the raw EMG signal
Audio Feedback Features
Each audio feedback option can be switched on and off using a button.
- Tone, midi or continuous midi
- Threhold control can be applied to the above, so that the sound
switches on and off as the threshold is crossed.

1. EMG Design
This session was recorded from a scalene / trapezius placement. The oscillations you
can see in the 10 minute trend are related to breathing.
